Quantum linguistics – your passport outta here!
Sounds a bit woo-woo?! Well that’s quantum physics for you, as physicist Niels Bohr famously said, “Those who are not shocked when they first come across quantum theory cannot possibly have understood it.” And “How wonderful that we have met with a paradox. Now we have some hope of making progress.”
Quantum concepts often run at odds to the way we think things work. For example, we know about cause and effect. Something happens that leads to something else. Nice, easy, logical! At the quantum level, however, the effect can bring about the cause!!! No wonder Einstein called this stuff “spooky”! Quantum in NLP
These days, quantum science extends to even psychology, in the form of NLP. At Master Practitioner we learn how to accept and revel in paradoxes, to expand our thinking and our ability to not only think outside of the box, but to exclaim, “What box?!”
We use sets of very short sentences and questions (less than 1 minute each) that can burrow deep into our unconscious mind and start to effect change. Can you imagine loosening up someone’s problem so succinctly and deftly in such a short time? How would that impact you or your clients?
Quantum linguistics at Master Practitioner level involves the art of confusion, confusing the client, reframing what they are saying in such a way that their mind is unable to fully comprehend the reason for having the problem in the first place! It’s like warping their words so that the representation in their mind is completely scrambled.
Confusion!
Think of a bowl of water and a glass of water. The bowl of water is your neurology, The glass of water is the problem. If you stand the glass of water in the water, the problem is contained by the glass. The glass is the linguistic boundary, all the ways you’ve believed in the problem, talked about the problem. Now, empty the glass into the bowl. The water that was in the bowl has changed, the water that was in the glass has changed. The glass has changed, it’s now empty.
If you needed to re-read that paragraph, or just gave up, you can understand how it feels to have the boundaries of a problem blown out! And it’s as simple as that. Confusion leads to leaps forward.
