Why I Left the Research Lab for the Riding Arena
(And What That Means for You)
For years, my world was defined by the tangible. As a research biochemist with a PhD in invertebrate endocrinology, I spent my days deep in the mechanics of life—antibodies, enzymes, hormones, proteins, lipids. Whether I was working at Liverpool University, the ETH in Zurich, at Keele University or in the labs at Kansas State University, I was trained to look for the mechanism of action. I wanted to know not just that something happened, but how and why it happened.
I spent decades teaching science in schools, colleges and universities – watching how the human brain processes information. I know how to break down complex systems until they are simple, resonant and actionable.
So, why the shift to NLP, Time Line Therapy® and Hypnotherapy?
Because science taught me how the body works, but NLP taught me how the mind works.
When I first encountered these techniques, I was a sceptic. But I needed a way to manage my own nerves as an equestrian. I was competing, I was riding, and I was hitting the same invisible walls that so many of you face.
The Result? It wasn’t just a “feeling.” It was a physiological shift. I learned how to rewire my own internal dialogue and manage my nervous system in ways I never thought possible.
I took the same rigour I applied to my PhD and my research team leadership, and I applied it to NLP. I didn’t just learn it; I mastered it—scoring 100% in my Trainers Training exam and earning a “That was perfect” in my practical demo.
Why you should train with me: Many courses offer you “fluff.” They offer you positive thinking without the science. My training is different because:
- I bridge the gap: I understand the biology of your stress (the hormones and enzymes) and the psychology of your performance.
- I have 30+ years of teaching experience: I don’t just “talk” at you. I take complex psychological concepts and turn them into real-life tools you can use today.
- I am a practitioner, not just a teacher: I still ride. I still face the ups and downs of horse ownership. I have felt the anxiety of a sick horse and the frustration of a setback. I use these tools on myself every single day to stay resilient.
I have spent 13 years coaching others to do the same. Whether you want to add this to your professional toolkit to build a career, or you simply want to master your own mind to reach your equestrian goals, this is the training that works because it is based on how humans actually function.
I have a small, elite group of 6 people joining me for the next cohort. We don’t do “generic” here. We do deep, lasting, evidence-based transformation.
